The book of Frank Shaw, The Earliest Non-Mystical Jewish Use of Ιαω (Peeters, 2014), is a fundamental study on the story of the divine name, particularly in the onomastica. I give a detailled review on Academia.
English Review of F. Shaw, The Earliest Non-Mystical Jewish Use of Ιαω (2014)
This is a significantly revised and expanded doctoral dissertation which shows that the divine name, contrary to what is commonly thought, was still in use in the Second Temple Period. The author particularly examines all the non mystical mentions of the term Ιαω, and shows that its use lasted until the second / third century. It has been known by the Christians, and they probably used it outside any magical context.
