Jusqu&rsquo;\u00e0 pr\u00e9sent les \u00e9ditions les plus courantes \u00e9taient le <a href=\"http:\/\/amzn.to\/2sDfpxS\">GNT5<\/a>, le\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/amzn.to\/2GpBBxv\">NA28<\/a>\u00a0et le <a href=\"http:\/\/amzn.to\/2ocWdm7\">SBLGNT<\/a>. A ces \u00e9ditions vient d\u00e9sormais s&rsquo;ajouter un texte assez prometteur (<strong>THGNT<\/strong>), paru il y a quelques mois chez Crossway.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Sous l&rsquo;\u00e9gide du <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tyndale.cam.ac.uk\/dirk-jongkind\">Dr Dirk Jongkind<\/a> et du <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tyndale.cam.ac.uk\/peter-williams\">Dr Peter Williams<\/a>, une \u00e9quipe de biblistes s&rsquo;est ainsi attel\u00e9e, pendant une dizaine d&rsquo;ann\u00e9es, \u00e0 la production d&rsquo;un nouveau texte. Cette \u00e9quipe n&rsquo;est certes pas partie tout \u00e0 fait de z\u00e9ro : elle a adapt\u00e9 le texte du Nestle-Aland\/GNT pour le conformer en tous points \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00e9dition imprim\u00e9e de l&rsquo;\u00e9dition de Tregelles. Ponctuation, accentuation, orthographe, ou divisions en paragraphes, tout a \u00e9t\u00e9 revu.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/242297030?title=0&amp;byline=0&amp;portrait=0\" width=\"460\" height=\"250\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Ce qui fait toutefois l&rsquo;int\u00e9r\u00eat de cette \u00e9dition, c&rsquo;est son c\u00f4t\u00e9 \u00ab\u00a0documentaire\u00a0\u00bb. Ainsi que s&rsquo;en expliquent les \u00e9diteurs :<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>(&#8230;) we have not felt it our job as editors to go back behind the witnesses that survive. Rather, in this edition we seek to constrain editorial choice to what is found in Greek manuscripts, not only in these matters, but also in other ones such as paragraph divisions, spelling, breathings, and accents. THGNT, 505.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p align=\"justify\">Le texte est donc \u00ab\u00a0documentaire\u00a0\u00bb en ce sens que les \u00e9diteurs n&rsquo;ont pas cherch\u00e9 \u00e0 reconstruire un texte hypoth\u00e9tique, aussi plausible que puisse \u00eatre la conjecture, mais s&rsquo;en sont tenus \u00e0 un principe assez simple : n&rsquo;\u00e9diter un texte qu&rsquo;\u00e0 la condition qu&rsquo;il soit attest\u00e9 par <strong>deux manuscrits grecs ou plus, dont un au moins dans un manuscrit ant\u00e9rieur au Ve si\u00e8cle\u00a0<\/strong>(THGNT, 506).<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Avec une telle \u00ab\u00a0contrainte\u00a0\u00bb (all\u00e9g\u00e9e dans le cas de la R\u00e9v\u00e9lation) le texte pr\u00e9sente en effet des diff\u00e9rences sensibles avec les \u00e9ditions pr\u00e9c\u00e9dentes, dont les \u00e9diteurs ont pr\u00e9vu de s&rsquo;expliquer dans un commentaire textuel \u00e0 para\u00eetre. Ce sera d&rsquo;autant plus n\u00e9cessaire que l&rsquo;apparat est volontairement tr\u00e8s r\u00e9duit, et vise moins \u00e0 illustrer le t\u00e9moignage des manuscrits, que le processus de d\u00e9cision des \u00e9diteurs, l&rsquo;objectif \u00e9tant, rappellent-ils :<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p align=\"justify\">our aim has been to produce a text with a high degree of directly verified antiquity so that users of this edition will have the benefit of knowing that any reading printed in this text rests on early testimony. (THGNT, 507)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p align=\"justify\">Il a donc fallu se priver des <em>versions<\/em> et des<em> citations patristiques<\/em>, ce dont ils s&rsquo;expliquent en indiquant que si un document plus r\u00e9cent peut effectivement pr\u00e9senter une le\u00e7on tr\u00e8s ancienne, leur objectif a surtout \u00e9t\u00e9 de produire un texte <em>effectivement attest\u00e9<\/em> dans des manuscrits grecs (autant que possible).<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">De nombreuses d\u00e9cisions ont ainsi d\u00fb \u00eatre prises : inclure ou non les <em>nomina sacra<\/em>, capitaliser ou non le terme \u03c7\u03c1\u03af\u03c3\u03c4\u03bf\u03c2, se conformer \u00e0 certaines conventions \u00e9ditoriales (comme le <em>iota<\/em> simple pour le <em>epsilon-iota<\/em> qu&rsquo;on rencontre volontiers dans les manuscrits, cf. 508-511), etc.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Une des particularit\u00e9s un peu \u00e9tonnante pour le lecteur moderne sera certainement l&rsquo;ordre des livres : \u00c9vangiles &#8211; Actes &#8211; \u00c9p\u00eetres catholiques &#8211; Corpus paulinien &#8211; R\u00e9v\u00e9lation. On trouve donc l&rsquo;\u00e9p\u00eetre de Jacques apr\u00e8s le livre des Actes.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Enfin l&rsquo;apparat critique, r\u00e9duit on l&rsquo;a dit, pr\u00e9sente un triple objectif (THGNT, 515) : <strong>1<\/strong>. indiquer les variantes qui ont suscit\u00e9 les choix les plus difficiles, et qui auraient pu int\u00e9grer le corps du texte, <strong>2<\/strong>. indiquer les variantes les plus importantes pour l&rsquo;ex\u00e9g\u00e8se, et <strong>3<\/strong>. indiquer les variantes pour illustrer les pratiques scribales.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">J&rsquo;avoue que lorsque j&rsquo;ai pris en main ce volume, j&rsquo;ai \u00e9t\u00e9 un peu d\u00e9\u00e7u par l&rsquo;apparat. Il faut cependant en comprendre l&rsquo;objectif, qui diff\u00e8re notoirement des \u00e9ditions courantes. De surcro\u00eet les \u00e9diteurs d\u00e9clarent avec un certain optimisme :<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p align=\"justify\">Other New Testament editions have a much fuller apparatus, but we believe that this edition&rsquo;s chief significance, like that of Westcott and Hort, lies not in its apparatus but in the text itself. (THGNT, 507)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p align=\"justify\">Pourquoi pas. Apr\u00e8s tout c&rsquo;est bel et bien le texte qui est au centre, et comme ici les versions et les citations des P\u00e8res ont \u00e9t\u00e9 ignor\u00e9es, et le texte fond\u00e9 sur des t\u00e9moins toujours anciens et grecs, il y a en effet moins d&rsquo;int\u00e9r\u00eat \u00e0 soupeser telle ou telle le\u00e7on &#8211; le THGNT constituant lui-m\u00eame, en quelque sorte, un t\u00e9moin, ou un \u00e9tat du texte.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Quelques remarques plus g\u00e9n\u00e9rales : il n&rsquo;y a aucune mention des citations scripturaires. Elles ne sont pas indiqu\u00e9es dans le corps du texte, ni signal\u00e9es en marge. Le <em>p\u00e9ricope de la femme adult\u00e8re<\/em> est plac\u00e9 dans l&rsquo;apparat critique (195-196). La <em>finale longue<\/em> de Marc est int\u00e9gr\u00e9e au corps du texte, mais signal\u00e9e par une notice (THGNT, 107), tandis que la <em>finale courte<\/em> est mentionn\u00e9e dans l&rsquo;apparat. Le choix de ne pas capitaliser le terme \u00ab\u00a0Christ\u00a0\u00bb, est surprenant, voire regrettable, bien qu&rsquo;ils encouragent \u00e0 ne rien en conclure (cf. THGNT, 511). Enfin l&rsquo;apparat a valeur indicative, et ne justifie pas \u00e0 lui seul tous les choix qui ont \u00e9t\u00e9 effectu\u00e9s (d&rsquo;o\u00f9 l&rsquo;int\u00e9r\u00eat du commentaire textuel \u00e0 venir).<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">A ce stade je n&rsquo;ai pas encore arpent\u00e9 suffisamment le texte pour rendre compte de ses innovations, d&rsquo;autant qu&rsquo;une \u00e9dition \u00e9lectronique commode n&rsquo;est pas encore disponible.
