Il \u00e9tait courant de d\u00e9fendre l&rsquo;Antiquit\u00e9 du christianisme par l&rsquo;appropriation de l&rsquo;histoire juive ; de pourfendre l&rsquo;adoration des idoles ; de laver les chr\u00e9tiens des soup\u00e7ons populaires pesant sur eux, etc. Th\u00e9ophile n&rsquo;y d\u00e9roge pas.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Dans ses <em>Trois livres \u00e0 Autolycus<\/em> (<em>Ad Autolycum<\/em>, compos\u00e9 apr\u00e8s 180 AD), il cite abondamment les \u00c9critures. On sait qu&rsquo;il le fait d&rsquo;apr\u00e8s la version des Septante en consid\u00e9rant ses chronologies (<strong>3.24-28<\/strong> ; cf.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.fr\/gp\/product\/2204038881\/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1642&amp;creative=19458&amp;creativeASIN=2204038881&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=encyclopaed09-21\">SC 20 : 49 sq<\/a>). De Genoude ici porte \u00ab\u00a0son Esprit\u00a0\u00bb plut\u00f4t que \u00ab\u00a0sa Sagesse\u00a0\u00bb &#8211; ce qui est fort contestable, et ce, m\u00eame si la Sagesse renvoie manifestement \u00e0 l&rsquo;esprit saint de Dieu chez Th\u00e9ophile.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Le nom \u00ab\u00a0Chr\u00e9tien\u00a0\u00bb \u00e9tait sujet de moqueries, comme il l&rsquo;indique \u00e0 plusieurs reprises : <strong>1.1, 1.12<\/strong>, et s&rsquo;il a pris la plume, c&rsquo;est bien que les Chr\u00e9tiens sont inqui\u00e9t\u00e9s de toutes parts (3.4). Cela ne va pas sans rappeler Actes 11.26 o\u00f9 on apprend que c&rsquo;est pr\u00e9cis\u00e9ment \u00e0 Antioche, \u00e9v\u00each\u00e9 de Th\u00e9ophile, que les disciples furent appel\u00e9s (\u03c7\u03c1\u03b7\u03bc\u03b1\u03c4\u03af\u03c3\u03b1\u03b9) \u00ab\u00a0chr\u00e9tiens\u00a0\u00bb. Certains, se fondant sur le sens que peut prendre le verbe\u00a0\u03c7\u03c1\u03b7\u03bc\u03b1\u03c4\u03af\u03b6\u03c9 dans d&rsquo;autres contextes (surtout s&rsquo;il est pr\u00e9cis\u00e9 par \u00ab\u00a0dans un r\u00eave\u00a0\u00bb, Mt 2.12, 22 ; \u00ab\u00a0par un saint ange\u00a0\u00bb, Ac 10.22, etc.) rendent ce passage par \u00ab\u00a0furent par une providence divine appel\u00e9s chr\u00e9tiens\u00a0\u00bb (TMN).
