Soutenue en 2013 par <a href=\"https:\/\/sun.academia.edu\/ManievandenHeever\">C. M. van den Heever<\/a>, l&rsquo;\u00e9tude est intitul\u00e9e <a href=\"https:\/\/scholar.sun.ac.za\/handle\/10019.1\/85679\"><em>Idioms in Biblical Hebrew &#8211; Towards their identification and classification with special reference to 1 and 2 Samuel<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">L&rsquo;auteur fait d&rsquo;abord un \u00e9tat de la recherche, en passant en revue les nombreuses \u00e9tudes d\u00e9di\u00e9es \u00e0 ce sujet dans les langues modernes (notamment l&rsquo;anglais et le fran\u00e7ais). L&rsquo;objectif est de comprendre le fonctionnement de ces expressions, et d&rsquo;en d\u00e9terminer les composantes essentielles (chapitres 1 et 2). Puis vient l&rsquo;examen sp\u00e9cifiquement d\u00e9di\u00e9 \u00e0 l&rsquo;h\u00e9breu biblique, avec les \u00e9tudes de <a href=\"https:\/\/books.google.fr\/books\/about\/Formelhafte_Wendungen_der_Umgangssprache.html?id=YkYDAAAAMAAJ&amp;redir_esc=y\">Lande<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.fr\/gp\/product\/2850210803\/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1642&amp;creative=19458&amp;creativeASIN=2850210803&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=encyclopaed09-21\">Babut<\/a> (examin\u00e9e dans sa <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.fr\/gp\/product\/0941037509\/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1642&amp;creative=19458&amp;creativeASIN=0941037509&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=encyclopaed09-21\">version anglaise de 1999<\/a>,\u00a0pp.88-96), <a href=\"https:\/\/journals.co.za\/doi\/10.10520\/AJA10318471_99\">L\u00fcbbe<\/a>, et <a href=\"https:\/\/www.academia.edu\/2244960\/Body_Idioms_and_the_Psalms\">Warren-Rothlin<\/a> (chapitre 3). C&rsquo;est d&rsquo;ailleurs l&rsquo;occasion de relever toutes les composantes qui ont \u00e9t\u00e9 propos\u00e9es pour d\u00e9finir un idiome (pp.103-122, cf. le tableau p.120). Puis l&rsquo;auteur aborde le volet th\u00e9orique de ces tentatives de classification (chapitre 4), avant d&rsquo;adopter celle adopt\u00e9e par <a href=\"https:\/\/www.academia.edu\/2963593\/Towards_a_New_Dictionary_of_Biblical_Hebrew_Based_on_Semantic_Domains\">De Blois<\/a> dans son <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sdbh.org\/dictionary\/main.php?language=en\"><em>Semantic Dictionary of Biblical Hebrew<\/em><\/a>. La m\u00e9thode est ensuite appliqu\u00e9e aux livres de Samuel (chapitre 5), o\u00f9 104 cas sont identifi\u00e9s sur un ensemble de 400 possibilit\u00e9s (p.181). La d\u00e9finition d&rsquo;une expression peut alors \u00eatre d\u00e9duite : pour l&rsquo;auteur, est idiomatique ce qui r\u00e9pond aux crit\u00e8res suivants : \u00ab\u00a0(1) multi-word character, (2) semantic non compositionality, (3) unit status, (4) conventionalisation, (5) a verbal nucleus, and (6) a content message\u00a0\u00bb (cf. p.177). Viennent ensuite les appendices (pp.197-320), o\u00f9 l&rsquo;on trouve le d\u00e9tail des expressions, class\u00e9es de diff\u00e9rentes mani\u00e8res.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Je n&rsquo;ai pas encore tout lu dans le d\u00e9tail, mais autant que je puisse en juger, c&rsquo;est une \u00e9tude remarquable, qui \u00e9tait plus que n\u00e9cessaire. Si l&rsquo;on comprend que l&rsquo;auteur se soit cantonn\u00e9 aux livres de Samuel, on peut aussi le regretter : cette approche emp\u00eache toute conclusion ferme sur les crit\u00e8res identifi\u00e9s. De surcro\u00eet les \u00e9crits po\u00e9tiques ont \u00e9t\u00e9 volontairement \u00e9cart\u00e9s en raison de leur difficult\u00e9 (cf. p.185), mais on sait bien que les expressions idiomatiques y foisonnent, aux c\u00f4t\u00e9s d&rsquo;expressions figur\u00e9es en tous genres. Sans doute les crit\u00e8res d&rsquo;identification y gagneraient encore en nettet\u00e9. Quoi qu&rsquo;il en soit l&rsquo;\u00e9tude de Babut, que j&rsquo;ai \u00e9voqu\u00e9e \u00e0 plusieurs endroits sur ce blog (cf. <em>infra<\/em> biblio), me para\u00eet vieillir plus qu&rsquo;honorablement.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Le seul reproche que je formulerais d&#8217;embl\u00e9e, c&rsquo;est cette si regrettable absence d&rsquo;un tableau r\u00e9capitulatif des figures identifi\u00e9es : une synth\u00e8se courte et commode (<em>idiome<\/em>, <em>d\u00e9finition<\/em> de base &#8211; m\u00eame discutable, avec au moins une <em>r\u00e9f\u00e9rence scripturaire<\/em>), comme dans Babut 1995 : 42-57. Le d\u00e9luge d&rsquo;informations des appendices ne permet pas de r\u00e9fl\u00e9chir \u00e0 l&rsquo;ensemble, de percevoir les traits communs, les faits saillants&#8230; L\u2019\u0153il doit pouvoir se balader d&rsquo;un idiome \u00e0 l&rsquo;autre, pour en percevoir l&rsquo;esprit.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Quoi qu&rsquo;il en soit cette \u00e9tude souligne la pauvret\u00e9 de la recherche en la mati\u00e8re, et constitue de fait une avanc\u00e9e majeure.
