Je ne soulignerai pour l&rsquo;heure qu&rsquo;un seul point (<strong>pp.58-59<\/strong>).<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">While on the subject of texts of the Bible and Jewish Bible-readings we should notice some important remarks of Origen about the tetragrammaton. He says that the Hebrews have ten names for God, one of which is <em>Adonai<\/em>, which is translated as Kurios. They also have a tetragrammaton, which is ineffable; it is pronounced Adonai, although this is not what is written, but among the Greeks (i.e. Greek-speaking Jews) it is pronounced Kurios. In the most accurate texts, he adds, the name is written in Hebrew letters &#8211; not in the modern Hebrew alphabet but in the oldest one. One likely source for Origen&rsquo;s information about the tetragrammaton is Philo, <em>Vit. Moys.<\/em> 11.23 (114f.), but presumably he also encountered the practice of pronouncing it <em>Adonai<\/em> or <em>Kurios<\/em> among Jews of his acquaintance. <strong>The statement that Greek-speaking Jews pronounced it <em>Kurios<\/em> is confirmed by a fragment of Aquila from the Cairo Geniza, where at one point where there was insufficient space in the line for the tetragrammaton it is replaced by the contraction \u03ba\u03c5<\/strong>. This same text also provided the first confirmation of Origen&rsquo;s statement that in some texts the tetragrammaton was written in Old Hebrew letters, in the form YHYH. The practice of transliterating the sacred name rather than translating it is not unparalleled in other contexts: it was the common practice, after all, of the Latin Middle Ages to write the name of Christ in Greek. It has also been convincingly demonstrated that in some Jewish circles the Old Hebrew letter Tau was retained for the name of God, even when its meaning was no longer understood.&rsquo; The editor of the fragment of Aquila suggested that Origen&rsquo;s `most accurate texts&rsquo; refers to Aquila, whom Origen frequently commends for his accuracy.? Since then other, earlier examples have come to light, notably the Dodecapropheton scroll published by D. Barth\u00e9lemy, and there is no longer any reason to suppose that Origen was referring exclusively to Aquila.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Effectivement, les fragments d&rsquo;Aquila retrouv\u00e9s dans la <a href=\"http:\/\/areopage.net\/blog\/2014\/04\/05\/la-genizah-du-caire\/\">Genizah du Caire<\/a> pr\u00e9sentent une curiosit\u00e9 troublante : \u00e0 c\u00f4t\u00e9 de mentions du t\u00e9tragramme en pal\u00e9o-h\u00e9breu, on trouve aussi un <em>nomen sacrum <\/em>(voir <a href=\"http:\/\/areopage.net\/PDF\/P52%20%28P.%20Rylands.Gr.457%29_NominaSacra_Fontaine.pdf\">Fontaine, <em>Le P52 contenait-il un nomen sacrum ?<\/em><\/a>, 2012, p. 53, cf. p.25).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/areopage.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/3107152.png\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-GBRCGhDo\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-3667 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/areopage.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/3107152.png?resize=285%2C300\" alt=\"3107152\" width=\"285\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/areopage.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/3107152.png?resize=285%2C300 285w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/areopage.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/3107152.png?w=745 745w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 285px) 100vw, 285px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Mais l&rsquo;affirmation de Lange doit \u00eatre contest\u00e9e : peut-on raisonnablement se fier \u00e0 ce t\u00e9moignage pour \u00e9tablir une pratique chez les Juifs ? Il y a deux probl\u00e8mes :<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">1. En fait le t\u00e9tragramme est pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 sous une forme \u00e9tymologisante, <strong>YeYa<\/strong>, qui fait penser \u00e0 ce qu&rsquo;on trouve dans la Mishna (cf. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.persee.fr\/web\/revues\/home\/prescript\/article\/rhr_0035-1423_1955_num_147_2_7221\">Delcor 1955<\/a>). Le double yod du P. Oxy. 1007 atteste sans doute de la m\u00eame r\u00e9alit\u00e9.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">2. Il est loin d&rsquo;\u00eatre prouv\u00e9 que ces fragments de la genizah du Caire soient&#8230; Juifs. En fait, il s&rsquo;agit plus probablement de copies chr\u00e9tiennes. Sur ce point crucial, cf. <a href=\"http:\/\/cat.inist.fr\/?aModele=afficheN&amp;cpsidt=27919115\">Edmon L. Gallagher, \u201cThe Religious Provenance of the Aquila Manuscripts from the Cairo Genizah,\u201d <em>Journal of Jewish Studies<\/em> 64 (2013) : 283-305.<\/a> D&rsquo;o\u00f9 il ressort que si aucune esp\u00e8ce de <em>certitude<\/em> n&rsquo;est possible, il se pourrait <em>bien<\/em> n\u00e9anmoins que ces fragments soient <strong>chr\u00e9tiens<\/strong> ! Il est d&rsquo;ailleurs <em>prouv\u00e9<\/em> que la genizah contenait des documents chr\u00e9tiens (voir la discussion de <a href=\"https:\/\/larryhurtado.wordpress.com\/2014\/10\/09\/provenance-of-aquila-ot-genizah-manuscripts\/\">L. Hurtado, <em>Provenance of Aquila OT Genizah Manuscripts<\/em><\/a>).
